SEA THE STARS MIGHT have been first past the post at the recent Epsom Derby, but the big winner this year is likely to be the racecourse's new stand, which provides the south of England with what is claimed to be one of its most versatile venues.

The completion of the £38 million, three-year project sees the addition of an 11,000 capacity grandstand which has been designed for both racing and non-racing events throughout the year.

Its 1,123m2 Oaks Hall on the ground floor doubles as an 800-seat conference venue, while three restaurants on the first floor provide flexible space for conferences, banqueting and racing. Additionally, there are 14 private boxes and the Downs View Suite, which can host over 100 people, for entertaining on the third floor.

"Interest has been shown by major companies in many areas, including the pharmaceutical sector, finance and even the motor industry, as the Duchess's Stand provides the region and the south of England with one of its most versatile and adaptable venues," says Nick Blofeld, managing director of Epsom Downs Racecourse.
