FINNAIR ADDS FLIGHTS TO HELSINKI-NEW YORK ROUTE
FINNAIR IS STEPPING UP its Helsinki-New York service to 10 flights per week from May, and has begun phasing in the first of its new Airbus A330s.
Three new flights have been added to the summer schedule, with the additional departures, on Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays at 17.10, providing a convenient connection for passengers from Heathrow and Manchester. The flights arrive in JFK at 18.50. The return service departs at 22.40, arriving 13.50 the following day.
The new A330s will gradually replace the carrier's dated MD-11s, "consuming 20 per cent less fuel, improving profitability and environmental efficiency significantly," says Finnair's UK director, Tomi Hanninen.
The A330 has similar Business and Economy seats to the carrier's current A340s, but the interior decor has been updated. The aircraft has 42 lie- flat seats in Business, and there is a touch-screen AVOD in-flight entertainment system with 26 films and 60 CDs among the options. Passengers also have the ability to make and receive calls from the aircraft, as well as emails and text messages.
