Savoy to reopen end of 2009

FAIRMONT HOTELS & RESORTS is to open nine hotels, and re-open two more - including London's Savoy - by the end of this year.

This winter sees the opening of a 222-room property in Beijing and a 150-room hotel in Boston, to be followed by one of the tallest hotels in the world, in Saudi Arabia. The 3,000ft , 76-storey Makkah Clock Royal Tower will have just over 1,000 rooms and 610 residences.

Spring openings are planned for the Fairmont Abu Dhabi Creek, with 369 rooms, and the 210-room Fairmont Yangcheng Lake in Kunshan, close to Shanghai. They will be followed in the summer by the 574-room Fairmont Nile City in Cairo, and the 157-room Fairmont Zimbali on the Kwazulu-Natal coast close to the existing Fairmont Zimbali Lodge and Country Club.

The 185-room Fairmont Pittsburgh is scheduled to come on line in the autumn, while the 415-room Fairmont Pacific Rim opens in Vancouver in time for the Winter Olympics in 2010.

In addition to The Savoy, which has undergone a £100 million makeover, this year will also see the reopening of the 120-villa Mount Kenya Safari Club.
