BA INTRODUCES MOBILE TICKETS
TRAVELLERS FLYING WITH British Airways can now check in for flights via their mobile handsets.
By logging on to www.ba.com/mobile with any mobile device with wireless connectivity, they can check timetables, make seat selections and check in individuals or groups for outward and return flights.
Chris Carmichael, British Airways' innovation and planning manager, says: "We recognise that our customers have busy lifestyles, and by offering greater accessibility, we hope to enhance their overall travel experience."
The latest development follows the success of British Airways' iPhone application launched last July. More than 16,000 iPhone users checked in via the service in its first month.
The 'remote check-in' launch coincides with the release of a new Juniper Research study which shows that mobile ticketing is destined to become increasingly popular.
Juniper forecasts that, by 2013, more than 400 million subscribers worldwide will be using their mobile devices as hi-tech tickets. By then, mobile ticket transactions will be worth US$92 billion (£60 billion) a year.
