NAME CHANGE RECOGNISES INDUSTRY SHIFT
THE INSTITUTE OF Travel Management is planning to change the acronym ITM to the Institute of Travel and Meetings. The proposed change has already been unanimously agreed by the ITM's 15-member board and will be put before members in March, at the annual conference in Liverpool.
Although the constitution does not require any amendment to the name to be approved by the membership, the board decided it should be voted on to ensure the move is endorsed, in the spirit of a more open and inclusive association. ITM chairman Caroline Strachan explained: "We feel this move is absolutely necessary for a variety of reasons. First, it recognises the increasing convergence of the business travel and meetings and events sectors, in both procurement and supply.
"Second, it recognises the increased numbers of members we are attracting who are dedicated to the meetings and events sector, and finally, it sets in stone the commitment we made when I took up the chairman's position to incorporate meetings and event content into our every day activity."
