... but Emirates buck the trend

33-10

DESPITE SOARING OIL prices and the problems facing the airline industry, Emirates has posted record profits, up more than 62 per cent on the previous year to £740 million. Passenger carryings increased by 3.7 million to 21.2 million.

"Despite the long-term forecast of a decrease in the number of passengers travelling in First and Business Class, I am happy to report that Emirates once again bucked the trend and boosted our seat factor in the forward cabins," said Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al-Maktoum, chairman and chief executive, Emirates Airline and Group.
